Mission Statement & Guidelines

The James W. & Frances G. McGlothlin Foundation was created in 2003 to provide assistance to charitable organizations in our local community and throughout the surrounding region.  The Foundation is a private non-profit entity providing grants to eligible 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations in the following categories:

  • Food, Shelter, and Clothing
  • Education
  • Children and Youth
  • The Arts
  • Health and Wellness
  • Community and Civic Improvements

The Foundation emphasizes innovation, accountability, measurable outcomes, and community welfare.  Priorities will be given to efforts that

  • Serve the community in an effective manner with available resources while displaying fiscal responsibility
  • Apply innovative approaches to achieve positive measure outcome
  • Use accountability and evaluation measures
  • Contribute to the long-term improvement of the community and are part of a community-wide campaign

The Foundation does not make grants to the following:

  • Individuals
  • Political or related causes

Requests should be in writing and include the following information.  There is no grant application form.  Grants are not intended to become part of an organization’s annual budget.

  • Objectives and background (in the form of a clear & concise cover letter)
  • Budget, including sources of funding (including support from the Board of Directors)
  • Demonstration of need
  • Specific plans and timetable of the project
  • Description of funding plans, both current and long-term
  • List of Board of Directors and key personnel, as well as proof that Executive Director and Treasurer are separate positions
  • IRS 501(c)(3) tax determination letter
  • A current year-to-date financial statement
  • The most current FORM 990 filed with the IRS

Please note that less than 10% of the organization’s budget should be spent on administration.  A site visit will also be required.  All the above information must be received no later than August 31st for your organization to be considered for a contribution.

Contributions are made annually in December.
